This past Saturday, Tracy Morgan returned to the set of “Saturday Night Live” to both host the evening’s show and to appear in the opening sketch. This was Morgan’s first appearance on the television show sixteen months after nearly dying in a fatal car crash, which left his friend dead. Even joking about his assumed loss of mental capacity, Morgan assured everyone that he had not lost anything and was even feeling better than before. He told the live audience that the faith of others kept him moving
Although joking about his near-death experience, the car crash that left Morgan’s mentor James McNair dead at the scene. To Morgan, he had been both his friend and his mentor in the comedian world. This deadly accident resulted from a Walmart trailer rear-ending the car containing Morgan and five others. The driver of the trailer pleaded not guilty in court, and a sum was paid to those in the crash for an undisclosed amount.
